SAFETY
KEEPS US ROLLING.
Houston's street hum with life - traffic lights flashing, bayou breezes cutting through our heat, and the steady rythm of riders pedaling in unison. Every week, a colorful pelaoton rolls with UBG. Whether you're clipping in for your first 20-mile spin or prepping for Mike MS, on truth bings every Houston rider: Safety is our pace-setter. Our rules aren't suggestions -- they're the difference between a success route finish and an ambulance ride. Here's how to live our rules in every group ride.
BRAKES
SAVE LIVES
Make sure your bike can stop on a dime. Before you roll, squeeze both levers. If it doesn't skid ... get tuned up.
RED LIGHTS ARE
NOT SUGGESTIONS
Treat every red light the same -- foot down, full stop, eye contact with vehicle cross traffic.
ONE LANE,
ONE FAMILY
2 -by-2 is allowed, but don't drift into the next lane. Occupy one lane with our presence not our egos.
EARS OPEN,
WORLD ON
No earbuds. You need to hear "CAR BACK!" or "HOLE RIGHT!" sooner than you see the hazard.
WHEELS APART,
RIDE TOGETHER
Keep a reaction gap and don't overlap wheels while in the paceline. That space is your airbag.
BE THE
TOWN CRIER
Call out hazards early! "Slowing!" "Stopping!" "Hole left!" "Gravel right!" A single call out can save 30 riders.
PASSING ALERT:
LOAD AND PROUD
"On your left!" (or right) is non-negotiable. Find the friendly volume -- think roll up greeting volume.
HELMET ON,
SPARES PACKED
Every ride starts with a safety check. Carry spare tubes, tools, air or pumps. Flats happen. Be prepared.
